I enjoy making one of a kind instruments that spring to life in the hands of a musician. I am inspired by the natural beauty of wood and aim to enhance each piece with materials and motifs from nature.
Janet is inspired by the natural grain of the wood and allows the individuality of each board to shine as the main design element. Once the appropriate wood is chosen, Janet decides accent woods, shell and metal that best enhance the specific design of that particular work of art.
Janet began her professional life in theatrical costuming working for Broadway musicals, many regional theaters, movies, television shows and on staff at Yale University and the University of California at Irvine. After more than 20 years in the costuming industry, Janet decided to return to her design roots and began woodworking. She designs and constructs numerous furniture pieces. She has developed a particular passion in guitar and ukulele design and construction often utilizing her love of Art Nouveau. Crafting instruments has created another level of intimacy with the wood, she now explores sound and tone.
